How to seize the present time of a city? How to describe its soul, how to count its heartbeats? And how to describe its transformations as well as praise this timeless and unique city Paris?
Cinema loves Paris, indeed. Paris, the quintessential cinematographic city becomes a fully-fledged character. Since the invention of the Seventh Art, Paris and the cinema were involved in a great love story. The city, as a muse, as a decor or as an actress has always vibrated under the spotlights of great filmmakers from all over the world.
The city of Paris has epitomized Cinema since the first public film screening on the Grand Boulevards held on December 28th, 1895. Since then, Paris has become the city that filmmakers, actors and cinephiles from all over the world dream about. Organized in collaboration with Pera Film and Institut Français, İstanbul, the program "Paris au present” pays special tribute to the city. Composed of fourteen films, the program depicts a vivid portrait of the City of Light: Paris, mixing up scenes of the romantic, the Parisian popular neighborhoods, contemporary Paris, the metropolis and the suburbia. This original Parisian itinerary is an invitation to discover a cosmopolite, multifaceted capitol. Through the assertive and demanding cinematographic criteria of the programming, the spirit of Paris is expressed in the present tense, far from stereotypes. "Paris Now” presents short and feature films, which interact harmoniously. This eclectic selection presents young directors’ debut films as well as the works of accomplished and well known filmmakers, through the genres of fiction, documentary and animation.
