This long-lasting film about the Paris Opera Ballet was shot at the Palais Garnier opera house during three months and covers diverse artistic, technical, and administrative aspects. While mixing rushes from rehearsals at the studio, office meetings, and corridor conversations as well as several excerpts from performances, master documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman succeeds in showing the complex mechanism of a mythic cultural institution, through total immersion. The opera house is filmed as a city in the city; a fortress in the heart of Paris.
