This is the story of Lautaro, a ten-year-old boy who lives in the Tierra Caliente region in southern Mexico during the 1940s. When he becomes an orphan, he is sent to live with an aunt in a town far away. Lautaro decides to walk back home, meeting many people, alive and dead, who help him to get back home.
