Pera Film presents a four-film showcase of one of the most important contemporary directors from Peru – Francisco Lombardi. Director Francisco Lombardi was born in Tacna, Peru, in 1949. In 1968, he studied at the Instituto of Cinematografica in Santa Fé, Argentina, until the army shut it down. He returned to Peru in 1969 where he finished his film studies and worked as a film critic at the Diario Correo and wrote for the magazine Hablemos de Cine. After the adoption of a new legislation on film in Peru in 1974, Lombardi created his own production company, Inca Films. Until 1977, he made short films and received several awards for them. After La ciudad y los perros in 1985, Pantaleón y las visitadoras is Lombardi's second adaptation of a novel by Mario Vargas Llosa for the cinema. He received the Silver Shell for Best Director in 1985 for his film The Time of the Hero based on the novel La ciudad y los perros by Mario Vargas Llosa. His film Without Compassion was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival.
