About the Director
Born in üsküdar, İstanbul in 1945, Ahmet Soner worked with renowned Turkish directors such as Atıf Yılmaz, Lütfü Akad, Vedat Türkali, Yılmaz Güney, Yavuz Özkan, and Şerif Gören. Soner shot his first short feature in 1966. He was among the founders of the “Young Cinema” movement. While working as a cameraman at “Turkish News Agency,” he filmed newsreels and documentaries. His script “İstanbul İşgaldedir” (İstanbul Invaded) was awarded at the competition held by Milliyet Sanat. Including Şerif Gören’s “Herhangi Bir Kadın”, “Tomruk,” and “Derman,” nearly twenty of his scripts were made into movies and TV series. His articles on literature and cinema were published in a number of newspapers and magazines. His documentary features “Adana - Paris” on Yılmaz Güney and “36 Kitap = 13 Cezaevi” (36 Books = 13 Prisons) on İsmail Beşikçi were screened in Turkey and Europe.
