Pera Film is celebrating Halloween with a program of Dutch Horrors!
Halloween is celebrated around the world on the 31st October, the one night of the year thought to be when ghosts, witches, and fairies come to life! Pera Film is saluting all the myths and scary tales with contemporary films from the Netherlands.
When the Dutch horror film De lift (The Elevator) was released in 1983 and was distributed worldwide by Warner Brothers, the Dutch press proudly announced the birth of "Nederhorror". According to the press this particular movie genre could best succeed in the Netherlands. In subsequent years, although there was no question of a Nederhorror boom, but since early 2000 in the Netherlands there is an increasing horror film production. In recent years, even several horror film festivals are organized. In collaboration with the Dutch Film Institute EYE, Pera Film presents a special selection of contemporary Dutch horrors with award-winning films such as Two Eyes Staring, which won Best Film Award and Best Screenplay during the international film festival Fantasporto in 2011. The same year, the American actress and producer Charlize Theron bought the rights of the film for an American remake.
