Miro

With a view to creating a liberal working environment for the artists, the Maeght Family inaugurates the Maeght Foundation in 1964 to rekindle friendships it has formed with artists and intellectuals in the 1930s, prior to World War II. This endeavor leads to the creation of the first modern and contemporary art foundation to be conceived in France.

Curated by Yoyo Maeght, a third generation representative of the Maeght Family to have spent a significant part of her childhood with the artist, Joan Miró: Prints, Paintings and Sculptures from the Maeght Collection presents the joyous and impassioned colors of the post-war period, as well as the recollections of a long-lasting friendship.

1893 Joan Miró was born on 20 April 1893 in Barcelona, in the Passatge del Crèdit.

1906-1910 He took classes at La Llotja, the Escola Superior d’Arts Industrials i de Belles Arts.

1910 Miró’s family purchased a farm in Montroig-del-camp in the province of Tarragona where his work as a painter would take shape and find its essential inspiration.

1910-1915 His parents gave in to his desire to become a painter, and he enrolled at the Francesc Galí Escola d’Art.

1918 Miró celebrated his first one-man exhibition, at the Dalmau Gallery.

1919 His first self-portrait which was given to Picasso was exhibited in 1920 at the Salon d’Automne in
Paris.
