Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics
The Collection
The beginnings of the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation's Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics Collection go back to the 1980s, when it was formed at the wish of Suna Kıraç, and over the years has grown to become one of the most outstanding of its kind. Today the collection consists of over four hundred remarkable pieces representing various periods - principally the 18th to 20th centuries - and types. It illustrates in detail the development of Kütahya tiles and ceramics, an area of Ottoman culture that until now has not attracted the attention and interest it deserves.
The limited number of pieces on display here have been chosen to give a general idea of the collection and Kütahya ceramics as a whole. Other future selections will give a broader representation of the collection, and at the same time an endeavour will be made to throw new light on diverse aspects of Kütahya tiles and ceramics, which are such an important part of our traditional cultural heritage.
