'Billie Not On Holiday' are a group of young international jazz musicians living in Istanbul. They are mainly interested in the 1920s and 1930s era of jazz, when the energetic swing beat determined mainstream pop culture. Since 2010 the band has been a popular act in Taksim nighlife scene; you may have caught them busking on Istiklal Street, performing at festivals and various events throughout Turkey and beyond. The mood of their show varies according to the seasons, at times delving into blues and gospel with vocalist Billie Beckley, at times featuring a more instrumental New Orleans jazz style with brass, banjo, and clarinette. The current line up as a quartet includes French duo Mirabelle Gilis on violin and Cyrille Allaigre on guitar, both specialised in the Parisian 'gypsy swing' of the great Django Reinhard and Stephane Grapelli. They are joined by two longstanding members Jack Butler (upright bass) and Hakan Bilmez (tenor saxophone).
