The Lure of the East
The Lure of the East British Orientalist Painting Education Program
Comprised of three stages, the 2 hour-and-15 minute education programs was designed for 4 different age groups (6-7, 8-11, 12-14 and 15-18 years). The programs, modified for each age group, were also supplemented with different activities.
Let’s Meet-Get Acquainted-Be Ready: After meeting each other and receiving information about the exhibition, the young visitors will get ready for the exhibition with a mini name-tag workshop. The participants will be reacquainted with and/or informed about “Portrait Painting”. Name-tags will be designed in light of this information.
Visit-Observe-Discover: This stage involves an evaluation and discussion on the works that the participants select together. In addition, the second stage will allow participants to observe the techniques, applications and materials used in the paintings. The subject, “Drawing” will be explained to participants of each group in an age-appropriate manner. With the exception of the 6-7 age group, all other groups will exercise drawing in front of the paintings in the galleries.
Let’s Design-Create: This stage includes different and exciting activities for each age group. Participants are encouraged to create their own designs on desktop easels.
6-7 years: This age group will work on “Portrait” painting.
8-11 years: This age group will work on “Landscape” painting. The preliminary study on “Drawing” will be conducted in the galleries on the same theme.
